What we are actually talking about
“Cookies” is the word everyone uses, but it covers a few different things a website can leave on your device: cookies proper, local storage, and session storage. They all do the same job — remember something between one page and the next. This page covers all of them.
What is stored before you choose anything
Only what the site needs to work safely. You cannot switch these off through this website, because without them the site either breaks or becomes unsafe.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
cej_cookie_consent_v1 |
This site (local storage) | Remembers the choice you made about analytics, so we stop asking | Until you clear your browser data |
wordpress_*, wp-settings-* |
WordPress | Only set if you log in to administer the site. Visitors never receive these | Session, or up to a year for logged-in staff |
_GRECAPTCHA |
Google reCAPTCHA | Tells people apart from bots on our forms, so the contact form is not buried in spam | About 6 months |
Your consent choice is kept in local storage rather than a cookie. That means it stays on your device and is never sent to our server — which is the point.
What is stored only if you allow it
One thing: Google Analytics. It is denied by default. If you accept, it tells us which pages people actually read, where they give up, and which routes through the site work. We look at it in aggregate to decide what to write and what to fix.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another | 2 years |
_ga_* |
Google Analytics | Keeps the session state for this property | 2 years |
We use Google’s consent mode. Until you accept, the analytics tags run with storage denied — no identifier is written to your device.
What we do not do
- No advertising cookies. Advertising storage and personalised advertising are denied, and we do not switch them on if you accept analytics.
- No advertising or social pixels. There is no Meta pixel, no LinkedIn insight tag, no TikTok pixel on this site.
- No selling or sharing of anything collected here for advertising purposes.
- No cross-site tracking of you around the rest of the internet.
Video embeds
Where we embed a video, the player does not load until you click it, and it loads from youtube-nocookie.com. That means nothing reaches YouTube until you have decided you want to watch. Once you click play, YouTube’s own terms and privacy policy apply to that playback.
Changing your mind
Use the control here, or the same link in the footer of every page. The banner comes back and you can choose again. There is no penalty for saying no — nothing on this site is withheld from you either way.
You can also clear stored site data in your browser, which resets the choice entirely. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data in its settings; blocking essential storage may stop the site working properly.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
There is still no agreed standard for how sites should answer a Do Not Track header, so we do not act on it. It makes little practical difference here, because nothing optional runs until you actively allow it.
When this list changes
If we add a tool that stores something on your device, it goes in the tables above before it goes live, and the review date at the top moves. If it needs your consent, it will not run until you give it.
